Ragnarok Online 3 — The Official Sequel We Have Been Waiting For

MMORPG (PC + Mobile) In testing — Pioneer Test Aug 2026, full release targeted 2026 PC, Android, iOS

Published by: Gravity Game Vision (co-developed with JoyMaker)

Release: 2026 (PC + mobile; Japan-first launch confirmed, global TBA)

Some announcements hit different. Ragnarok Online 3 — the official numbered sequel, not a spin-off, not a side project — is the one longtime RO fans have quietly hoped for since the first rumors. I have been playing Ragnarok since the early 2000s — I remember camping Orc Heroes, farming cards for weeks, and defending Emperiums until the sun came up — and this is the first time Gravity has ever given the classic a true numbered sequel. Published by Gravity Game Vision and co-developed with JoyMaker, RO3 is slated for 2026 on PC and mobile, and the early hands-on coverage has this old player grinning like a kid again.

What we know so far

RO3 is a genuine sequel to the classic Ragnarok Online, rebuilt with modern visuals while keeping the world, job system, and soul of the original. Confirmed details:

  • The original classic pixel-art style faithfully recreated in high quality — Prontera and Morroc rebuilt with modern graphics
  • A diverse job system with 3rd jobs, plus a simultaneous combat system
  • Emperium Showdown — the evolved Siege War: breach city walls, fight through the inner city, then battle for the Emperium crystal, with battering rams, ladders, cannons, mechs, and Commander Skills
  • Large-scale battles: 40-vs-40 guild warfare, 10-player raid dungeons, and a 100-player dungeon boss fight
  • Seasonal content updates planned post-launch
  • Dynamic day-night cycle and weather system that deepen exploration

RO3 beta test timeline (2026) — how to join

Gravity has been methodical about testing. The first public taste was the Emperium Showdown offline playtest (Nov 2025), which brought 250 players from Thailand, Indonesia, South Korea, the Philippines, and Taiwan together for the siege mode. Since then the closed tests have rolled out region by region:

  • Traditional Chinese "Ignition Test" — June 25 to July 2, 2026 (TW/HK/MO)
  • Closed preview with dev dialogue sessions — August 9–10, 2026
  • Global Pioneer Test — August 12, 2026 for Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, and Taiwan
  • China first test — August 27, 2026
  • Pre-registration is open now at ro3.roglobal.com — signing up is how you get invited to future tests

Ragnarok Online 3 system requirements (PC beta)

The PC beta is being tested on a modern spec. The published minimum and recommended requirements for the early tests are roughly:

  • CPU: Intel Core i5-13420H (or equivalent) recommended
  • RAM: 16 GB DDR4 3200 MHz recommended
  • Storage: 1 TB NVMe SSD (the PC version is built fresh, not a mobile port)
  • GPU: modern NVIDIA-class discrete GPU; the game targets the classic pixel-art look at high resolution
  • Mobile: Android and iOS clients are in parallel development; official minimum specs for mobile are not yet published

Why every RO fan is watching this one

RO3 is not a cash-grab re-skin. It is the first numbered sequel in the series' history — Gravity is calling it "RO, as it was meant to be." For the millions of us who grew up in Prontera, this is the rare official project that looks like it actually understands what made RO magical: the classes, the card system, the guild wars, the chaos of a full Emperium defense. Watching the trailer — the familiar streets, the Poring bouncing across the screen — I felt like a teenager again. If Gravity lands even half of what the trailers show, 2026 is going to be a great year to be an RO fan, and I will be there on day one.

The pay-to-win question — honestly

RO3 is free to play, and the community has been loud about one thing: monetization. After the first Pioneer Test, players raised pay-to-win concerns, and the developers responded with a formal statement — they acknowledged the concerns directly, said the game will not feature pay-to-win monetization, and clarified how seasonal resets, trading, and progression will work. The honest take: whether that holds up at launch remains to be seen. The monetization details are still being finalized, and anyone telling you it is settled is overconfident. We will know for sure when the servers open.

🎮 From your RO fans at RAW — While I wait for RO3's official servers to open — and I am counting the days — I keep the RO flame burning on rAthena-AI World (RAW), a Full Renewal rAthena server where the NPCs are driven by real AI: they remember you across sessions, hear the world around them, and actually talk back. It is the closest thing to a living Midgard while we wait, and it is free. Download the launcher and come hang out in Prontera with me. How to Connect →
