Ragnarok Online turned 24 in 2026, and it is still officially running — and still impossibly beloved.

iRO (international) and kRO (Korea) are both still live in 2026, alongside Renewal (the 2009 rebalance) and the original pre-Renewal experience. The 2.5D pixel world, the card system, the job tree from Novice to 3rd jobs — it all still works, and people still play it.
Renewal vs pre-Renewal
Renewal (2009+) rebalanced everything: 3rd jobs, new formulas, faster leveling, reworked stats. Pre-Renewal is the classic 2002–2008 experience. Both are alive — on official servers and in the private-server scene. Which is "better" is a war that will never end, and that is part of the fun.
Why it endures
The class system — 6 base jobs to 2nd to transcendent to 3rd — is one of the most beloved progression trees in MMO history. The community, the economy, the chaos of Prontera at peak hours. And now, 24 years in, the franchise is bigger than ever with RO3 on the way.
