Ragnarok Online 3 is real. And I still cannot quite believe it.
I grew up in Prontera. I spent actual years of my life there — buying potions, shouting for parties, waiting for the MVP spawn like it was a religious ritual. So when Gravity announced the official numbered sequel — published by Gravity Game Vision, co-developed with JoyMaker, coming to PC and mobile in 2026 — I did what every old-school Ragnarok player did: I watched the trailer about forty times and got a little emotional. This is the one we have been quietly hoping for since the first rumors.
What is Ragnarok Online 3?
This is not a spin-off. Not a cash-in. Not a "mobile-first" re-skin. RO3 is the first official numbered sequel in Ragnarok history — Gravity themselves are calling it "RO, as it was meant to be." They rebuilt the world we grew up in: Prontera, Morroc, the job system, the cards, the guild wars — all of it, in that classic pixel-art style that made the game timeless, but with modern visuals layered on top. The towns have a day-night cycle now. The weather changes. It is the same Midgard I remember, but somehow more alive.
Emperium Showdown — the siege war, evolved
If you ever defended an Emperium until 3 AM, this one is for you. Emperium Showdown is the evolved War of Emperium, and it is everything I hoped the old WoE would grow into: breach the city walls with battering rams and cannons, fight through the inner-city chaos (yes, there are mechs), then battle for the Emperium crystal in the castle chamber. 40-vs-40 guild warfare with Commander Skills. Watching the playtest footage, I genuinely got goosebumps — that is the chaos I remember, but bigger and louder.
And there is so much more: 10-player raid dungeons, a 100-player dungeon boss fight, a job system that runs from first to third job — community databases list 34 classes across the progression — plus seasonal content planned after launch. The class system looks like a homecoming for fans of the classic jobs.
Ragnarok Online 3 beta test — how to join
Gravity has been running tests in waves, and the timeline is real:
- Nov 2025 — Emperium Showdown offline playtest: 250 players from Thailand, Indonesia, South Korea, the Philippines, and Taiwan.
- June 25 – July 2, 2026 — Traditional Chinese "Ignition Test" (TW/HK/MO).
- Aug 9–10, 2026 — Closed preview with dev dialogue sessions.
- Aug 12, 2026 — Global Pioneer Test for Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, and Taiwan.
- Aug 27, 2026 — China first test begins.

Ragnarok Online 3 system requirements (PC beta)
For the PC heads out there: the PC version is being built from the ground up — not ported from mobile — and the beta is running on a modern spec:
- CPU: Intel Core i5-13420H or equivalent (recommended)
- RAM: 16 GB DDR4 3200 MHz (recommended)
- Storage: 1 TB NVMe SSD
- GPU: modern NVIDIA-class discrete GPU
- Mobile: Android and iOS in parallel development; official mobile minimum specs not yet published
RO3 release date and platforms
The target is 2026, on PC, Android, and iOS. Gravity confirmed a Japan-first launch on mobile and PC, with the global release date still to be announced. And the important part for us old-timers: it is a true multi-platform game — not a mobile port wearing a PC skin. The PC client has a customizable modular UI and classic-vs-modern control options, which tells me they actually remember who we are.
RO3 FAQ — what players keep asking
Is Ragnarok Online 3 a sequel to the original RO? Yes — the official numbered sequel, not a spin-off. It revisits the world of Midgard with classic towns rebuilt — though the exact story timeline is not yet officially detailed, and community readings of the trailers differ.
Will RO3 be on Steam? Not confirmed yet. PC and mobile are the announced platforms; no Steam or standalone-client announcement so far.
Does RO3 have the card system? The trailers and dev updates show a deep class and build system; full card-system details are still under wraps, but the classic job identity is front and center.
Is RO3 free to play? Is it pay-to-win? This is the one question the community has been loudest about. After the first Pioneer Test, players raised serious pay-to-win concerns about monetization — and the developers responded with a formal long-read statement. They acknowledged the concerns directly and stated the game will not feature pay-to-win monetization, clarifying how seasonal resets, trading, and progression will work. Whether that holds up at launch remains to be seen — the honest answer is that the monetization details are still being finalized, and the community is watching closely.

Why every RO fan should be excited
Ragnarok Online has been alive for 24 years. Through official servers, through mobile hits like Ragnarok M and Ragnarok X, through a private-server scene that never once gave up. RO3 is Gravity finally saying: the classic deserves a true sequel. The trailers show rebuilt Prontera and Morroc, job-specific skill demonstrations, and the kind of large-scale guild warfare that made the original legendary. If the final release delivers even half of what the devs have shown — and the tests so far suggest they are serious — 2026 is going to be a fantastic year to be an RO fan. I will be there on day one.
